Ever get off to a bad start? Maybe it was a class, a sports season, or a new social situation. It’s hard to dig yourself out of the funk, right? Or maybe it was something far more important like life. Millions of people are born into poverty in our country, and that makes it likely that they’ll eventually have children who are born into poverty. It’s a vicious cycle that is nearly impossible to get out of, which means that more and more kids will be born into a very difficult situation. A Wider Circle is a Silver Spring, MD non-profit organization that empowers “children and adults to break the cycles of poverty and poor health.” By providing basic need items to struggling families, A Wider Circle puts people in a situation where success is attainable.

How Wide Is Your Circle?

Every month A Wider Circle furnishes the homes of more than 1,000 people free of charge. They provide basic needs that individuals need to ensure that they can focus on a healthy and productive life that includes education and employment. A Wider Circle isn’t tied to a specific type of help, but instead aims to serve people based on their needs. They do this through a number of programs including Neighbor to Neighbor, Public Housing Wellness, Shelter Support, School Community, and Well Mother, Well Baby. From what I can tell, A Wider Circle really makes the most of the resources they have, and that includes their people. If you want to be one of them, then you should check out A Wider Circle internships on Idealist or on their own Internships page. The opportunities are unpaid and offered in the following areas: Client Relations, Education, IT Support, Management and Strateic Planning, Marketing and Fundraising, Neighbor to Neighbor, Public Housing, Research and Writing, and Well Mother Well Baby.
