You have to love a company whose founder is willing to admit he was wrong. Ahmet Ertegun, the guy who started Atlantic Records, once said, “I honestly never imagined I would be able to make a living doing something that was so much fun. I am very glad I was wrong.” Things may have changed at Atlantic Records - rhythm & blues, rock and roll, and jazz have certainly given way to hip hop, punk, and pop in terms of popularity, but you still have to imagine that it’s unbelievably fun to work with the biggest names in music. Atlantic’s artist list is ridiculously impressive with something for nearly everyone.
If you look for internship information on Atlantic Records’ website, you’re not going to find anything. They have a Careers page, but there’s one position listed, nothing about internships, and not even any details about working for Atlantic Records. We found out about Atlantic Records’ Fall Internships from a couple of posts on AbsolutePunk.net, a website and message board for lovers of punk music.
The first internship opportunity with Atlantic Records was posted a few weeks ago. The Pop-Rock Marketing Department is looking for Fall interns in New York City who can get college credit (this typically means that the internships are unpaid). To apply for this internship, you should send a cover letter and resume to katie.brown@atlanticrecords.com. There’s a chance that these positions have already filled, but if you’re into pop-rock, you should definitely apply. The rest of the internships were posted yesterday, and they’re also located in New York City. These internships are in the Digital Marketing Department. Here are the details:
Content & News intern: Involves scouring the internet for news relevant to Atlantic artists and requires the ability to write short, snappy and vibrant articles for AltanticRecords.com, as well as copy for blog posts and email blasts. We’re looking for fun, keen music lovers with a strong, creative writing flair. Ideal for any journalism majors!
Department Intern: You get to work with the entire Digital Media and E-commerce department! This position requires an interest and understanding of how the music blogosphere and Social Networking sites operate. You must be familiar with Microsoft Office at the very least and Photoshop and Final Cut Studio skills are an added plus.
Creative/Design Intern: You’ll help to create banners and maintain the design aspects of MySpace profiles and various web pages. We need someone with a strong creative vision and must be familiar with Photoshop, CSS and HTML.
Once again, these internships are for college credit only. Oh yeah, and only awesome applicants should apply by sending a cover letter and resume to christina.lupinacci@atlanticrecords.com with the internship that you’re applying for in the subject line.
