Thanks for joining us for our first post on One Day, One Internship. If you’re a One Day, One Job reader, you know the drill. If you’re not, we’ll explain. Every day we feature one company and their internship opportunities. We do basic background research to give you new ideas on companies that might be fun, interesting, or exciting to work for as an intern. Our daily posts should be a jumping off point for you to continue your research and to get you in the right mindset for thinking creatively about what you want to get out of your Summer (or whenever you decide to do it) internship experience.
Whether you’re looking to add an extra commitment because of a lighter than expected course load, or trying to get your parents off your back about what you’re doing this Summer, Bliss offers two great internship opportunities that will provide a flexible schedule, excellent learning opportunities, and a really fun work environment. Why do we think they’ll have a fun work environment? Because “countless hours of spa-side tension-nixing and skin-fixing are the basis of Bliss.” Beyond that, they have amazing copywriting. Whether it’s their product descriptions or their job postings, Bliss uses its way with words to woo you. We think that kind of attention to detail has to spill over into the workplace.
The internships that Bliss offers aren’t your typical Summer internships, in that they are not full-time, temporary jobs. Instead, Bliss expects its interns to commit to at least 2 days a week (maybe they will take you on full time, but we can’t be sure). These internships are also unpaid, which we think is silly, but it’s kind of the way things are. Almost all companies can afford to pay you $10 an hour - it makes almost no difference to them, but to potential interns it might make a huge difference. Maybe if we yell about it every time we write about an unpaid internship, companies will start to get the picture. Anyways, the internships that Bliss is currently offering (scroll to the bottom for details) are in PR (or what they like to call Publissity) and marketing and are located in New York City. Both offer a unique chance to work with a really well known brand doing what they do best (promoting themselves, not helping people relax).
It seems to us that Bliss’ internships are meant to be completed in conjunction with enrollment in college classes, so if you’re at Columbia, NYU, St. John’s, or one of the many other colleges and universities in New York City, this might be a great addition to your scheduled classes. In the Summer you could possibly combine a Bliss internship with another part-time job or internship. They don’t say anything about getting college credit, but we imagine that’s more up to your registrar than your employer.
