First of all, apologies to our e-mail subscribers. For some reason yesterday’s post didn’t get sent, but it should have been included with today’s post. Hopefully it won’t happen again. As for internships, it’s getting harder every day to find quality opportunities to write about, but we’re planning sticking with posting about opportunities for this Summer for at least a few more weeks. Even if you’re a bit desperate for an internship, you should try to find something that will actually be worth your while. Don’t just get an internship for the sake of getting an internship. If you’re interested in media, make sure that your internship has something to do with the Internet. A company like CNET Networks is perfect, because they have a proven track record, but they’re still a new media company.

Practically Ancient

When it comes to internet media companies, CNET Networks has been around a long time. They started with a TV show in 1994, and since then they’ve been a major presence in online media. Despite their old fogey status, they’re also managing to keep up with the constant barrage of new online trends. To do this they’ve built up an impressive portfolio of sites, and now reach over 145 million unique users a month. Their brands include: BNET, CHOW, CNET, CNET Channel, International Media, GameSpot, GameFAQs, MP3.com, mySimon, Search.com, TechRepublic, TV.com, UrbanBaby, and ZDNet. You’ve probably come across at least one of these brands at some point in your web surfing.

Interning at CNET Networks

CNET Networks has a job search site just for college students. It includes both their internships and their entry-level positions. There are still a number of Summer internships listed on the site, so we assume that it means that CNET Networks is still hiring interns. Options include: Editorial Intern, Software Engineer Intern, and Marketing Coordinator Intern. All of these internships are located in San Francisco, and there’s no mention of whether they’re paid or not.

We also noticed that the way to apply for internships at CNET Networks is by clicking a button that says “Submit Now!” Does anyone else find that hilarious?

So, we featured CNET’s internships yesterday. Today they were acquired by CBS for $1.8 Billion. Clearly our voice matters.
