Colaboratory Internships

Do you have a short attentions span? Too short to spend an entire summer interning with a single company? Ok, that’s probably not something that you’d usually want to admit to, but it might be ok just this once. Colaboratory is an Portland, OR internship program that allows you to work at 3 different companies over the course of the summer. It’s a collaboration of ad agencies (members of the Portland Ad Federation) that otherwise might be competitors in an effort “to make each other better and, by doing so, make Portland a better place to live, work and grow.” There are supposed to be 10 companies participating, but I only count 9 on the Partner Agencies page. They include The New Group, Grady Britton, Ascentium, Anvil, HMH, Fish Marketing, Leopold Ketel & Partners, Xhang Creative, and Pop Art. This is one of the cooler things that I’ve come across since I started looking at dozens of internships every day, so you should really keep reading.

Kill 3 Birds with One Internship

Colaboratory is not only one of the coolest internship programs that I’ve come across, but it’s also one of the best described internship programs that I’ve come across. The Colaboratory website does a fantastic job of spelling out all of the details of what the program entails. Here’s the quick rundown:

COLABORATORY takes place over 6 weeks in Portland, Oregon. 10 participants are selected and individually paired with 3 of the 10 agencies based on their strengths and interests. Interns spend 2 intensely focused weeks at each agency learning from all disciplines.

During the 6 weeks working at agencies across Portland, Interns also form 2 competing teams to develop a campaign pitch for local (and we think pretty friggin’ cool) client. All we’ll say is it’s not Nike. There are other cool businesses in Portland, you know.

The internships are paid at $8.40/hour for a 37.5-hour work week, and you need to bring your own laptop. The internships are offered in “writing, design, interactive, multimedia, account management, production, strategy, public relations and … kicking ass.” The application deadline is April 10th, and you can apply here. There’s plenty more information on the website, so check it out.

    Heather–

On your site and in your post you have the deadline date marked as April 15th. Does this mean that the application deadline is not extended after all?

    Logan
