Happy MLK Day! For last year’s holiday we featured internships at The King Center, so check those out. Today’s company has nothing to do with MLK, so instead of trying to make a tenuous connection, I’m going to jump right in. Datran Media is a New York City based digital marketing technology company. They help “advertisers, publishers and agencies manage their branding, acquisition, retention and monetization campaigns across multiple channels.” They started as an e-mail marketing company back in 2001, and since then they’ve expanded into a number of different business areas. Datran Media has worked with huge names like NASCAR, eHarmony, The Ad Council, and Microsoft. To get a better feel for what Datran Media does, you may want to check out these case studies of award winning campaigns that they’ve done for the PGA Tour and Sony.
Although you will see the word “branding” pop up occasionally on Datran Media’s website, it seems that their main focus is on performance based marketing. Their motto of “Acquire. Retain. Monetize. Measure.” really says it all. In fact, they may have been a little too results focused in the past. In 2006, Datran Media reached a $1.1 million settlement for sending out unsolicited e-mails. Obviously, that’s not good, but hopefully they’ve learned their lesson. Sometimes a small error can result in a major screw up in the world of digital marketing—the same attributes that cause that also make it exciting though. Considering that huge brands are still more than willing to work with Datran Media, you shouldn’t hesitate about considering an internship with them (but do your research!). Unfortunately I can’t link to specific job postings because of their crappy applicant tracking system, but if you head here, you’ll be able to see what they have available. There’s only one internship posting right now for an Aperture Intern, but you can apply online once you find the job posting. They don’t seem to say whether the position is paid or not, so you’ll have to look into that yourself.
