EchoDitto

We had a serious internal debate about whether we could go ahead with posting about today’s company. Our mission is to bring our readers an unbiased look at great internships, but it’s hard to overcome our personal feelings when it comes to certain issues. So what was the cause of our reluctance to post about EchoDitto? They are the ones who gave Rosie O’Donnell a blog. We’re not big Rosie fans, ok? Actually, we didn’t have a big internal debate, but we did have some pause when it came to posting about EchoDitto. They are in the business of building online communities, but they seem to take a pretty strong political stance when it comes to choosing the clients with whom they work. Students who don’t share the same ideals probably won’t feel comfortable working for EchoDitto; however, the internship that they are offering looks too good for us not to write about it.

The Internet Is No Longer a Luxury

EchoDitto helps non-profits, corporations, and political organizations build their online presence in a way that promotes dialogue, advocacy, and fundraising (or business, for those corporations). You need to look no further than EchoDitto’s own website to witness their prowess at harnessing the power of the Internet. EchoDitto has a great About page, an active blog, a nicely organized Careers page, and an insanely easy online job application. Their entire site is a call to action, and it makes even those who may not agree with their agenda want to get involved. EchoDitto understands how Web 2.0 works, and they’re a perfect place for a college student to develop on the job skills that will make them stand out in the new economy.

EchoDitto Doesn’t Use Their Copying Machine

EchoDitto is looking for an Online Organizing and Communications Intern, which is a position that falls right in line with what EchoDitto is all about. So, instead of making copies all summer, this intern will be elbows deep in the social media work that EchoDitto does every day. Although the internship listing says that it is a Spring internship, we have to believe that it’s still open. One of EchoDitto’s core competencies is keeping things on the web up to date - we can’t imagine that they’d overlook their internship postings. They are located in Washington, DC (as is the internship) and are willing to offer a stipend and college credit to their interns. Like we said in the intro, if you’re not progressively-minded, this internship might not be a good fit for you, but it still may be worth a look. You can always learn a lot from the other side.

UPDATE: We were right about this internship’s still being active. From Cristen Perks, Senior Strategy Architect at EchoDitto: “Just a quick note that I’m scheduling interviews for the internship this week and next so if you can add any urgency to the posting that would great! We’d like to have an offer letter out and accepted by the end of the month!”
