
A lot of people and organizations think that they know what it takes to keep kids out of trouble. They’ll go on and on about how this or that is the way to keep kids from becoming criminals. Fight Crime: Invest in Kids is a non-profit organization that takes “a hard-nosed look at research on what keeps kids from becoming criminals and put that information in the hands of policy-makers and the public.” They base their action on facts, not feelings, so that they can do the most to make our streets safer and the lives of our youth more meaningful.
Fight Crime: Invest in Kids offers a number of different internships year round, both at the national and local levels. At the National Level they offering Washington, DC based internships in Federal Policy, Research, Media, and IT. To apply for one of these internships, send a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to jobs@fightcrime.org. In their Chicago office, they have a more general internship that will require work across a number of fields including research, recruiting, and organization. To apply for an internship in Chicago, you can send a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to ilintern@fightcrime.org. Finally, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids also offers internships in California. It’s the same deal as the Chicago internship, but it’s based in Oakland and you should send your application materials to hiring@calfightcrime.org. Interns at Fight Crime: Invest in Kids are paid minimum wage and get to work on exciting projects that will help decision makes make the right decisions when it comes to intervening with troubled youth. If you believe that fighting crime shouldn’t be based on opinions, but should be based on research, then these internships are for you.
