As a college student, you’re probably not accustomed to the luxury of having gift baskets of gourmet treats delivered to your doorstep – unless you consider a cheap cardboard box to be a gift basket and pizza and wings to be gourmet. So, you may not be familiar with Harry & David, “a vertically integrated direct mail marketer and retailer of gourmet fruit, foods and gifts.” The cool thing about Harry & David is that they grow 9 out of 10 products that they sell, and they have a substantial internship program.
Harry & David offers internships in almost any field you could imagine. They take interns in: Computer Science, Finance, Food Science, Graphic Design, Human Resources, Marketing, Merchandising, and Supply Chain. Each type of internship has a description on their website, but all are in word documents. You can find the links to these files on the lower right hand side of Harry & David’s College Relations / Internships page. We really like the approach that Harry & David has taken to internships. They pay both undergrads and graduate students. They offer real life work experience. They provide housing assistance. Networking with top executives is part of the internship. And, they strongly encourage interns to take advantage of Southern Oregon’s recreation (lots of outdoor activities like hiking and fishing) and entertainment opportunities. There’s also a big emphasis on community service projects, which tells you a lot about what Harry & David is like as a company.
Harry & David’s internships page has the logos of 10 schools on it. We’re not sure if these are schools where previous interns have come from, schools at which they recruit heavily, or just random logos that they picked to make the page more college friendly. Harry & David is looking for interns who are rising Juniors or Seniors with solid GPAs. You can apply by sending a cover letter and resume to jobs@HarryandDavid.com.
