Today I’m posting from Cornell University, because I’ve returned to my alma mater for Slope Day. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s Cornell’s version of Spring Weekend. It’s the last day of classes, so everyone skips out, goes to a big hill on campus, and behaves as you’d expect they would during a campus-wide party. It’s definitely important to check your privacy settings before posting Slope Day pics on Facebook. Since Spring Weekends are usually described as “ridiculous,” we’re going to go with that theme for today’s internships. I Can Has Cheezburger? is a website that has its entire revenue model based on pictures of cats with funny captions - better known as Lolcats.
No, we haven’t completely lost it. There is actually a website that gets millions of hits, makes money, and hires employees because their pictures of cats are so popular. We’ll fess up that the last time that they posted an internship was in November, but we think that sending a resume in the form of a lolcat would have a good chance at convincing them to hire new interns. We don’t even know what to say about these internships, so we’re just going to quote the description from I Can Has Cheezburger’s job posting (which became popular on Digg).
We are looking for upbeat, smart and happy interns to help put moar cheez on the burgers — so to speak. The intern will work on our social marketing, help fulfill t-shirt sales, answer emails from totally random people, bathe Happy Cat (j/k!) and fill in where needed.
Requirements:
Deep and wide-ranging understanding of popular culture (TV, intertubes, geek, movies, music, games, anime, news…)
Awsumness. 0.00012 or higher on the Chuck Norris scale.
Please send your resume to icanhascheezburger@gmail.com.
In all seriousness, there’s not too much more about I Can Has Cheezburger? on their site. As silly as they seem, the company actually is doing a great job when it comes to online marketing. This interview that ShoeMoney (internet marketing superstar) had with Ben Huh, Chief Cheezburger, is worth listening to.
If it’s your school’s Spring Weekend, have a great time. You’ve earned a break. Just be safe, and don’t do anything too stupid. If it’s not, then get researching. There are lolcats waiting to be loled at.
