We know that a lot of you probably want to go to law school eventually. You’ve probably been feeling ignored. We have never featured an internship directed at the pre-law crowd, but today that is going to change. To be honest, we don’t really know much about law school and the entire process associated with it, but we do know that the Lawyers Alliance for New York is looking for undergraduate candidates for their internship.
The title of the internship is “Summer Pro Bono Intern,” but we don’t think the double entendre was intended. The intern will:
assist with all aspects of the pro bono program, including assessing files, corresponding with volunteer attorneys throughout the City, researching pro bono projects and trends, and other related tasks. The intern will have the opportunity to be exposed to public interest law, many New York nonprofit organizations, and the role law firms and corporations are playing to improve the quality of life and access to justice all New Yorkers.
He or she will also work for free. There’s that double entendre. The Lawyers Alliance for New York is a non-profit organization that provides “business and transactional legal services for nonprofit organizations that are improving the quality of life in New York City neighborhoods.” So this is as “feel good” as it gets with lawyers.
Interns are expected to submit a resume, cover letter, and short writing sample to pbinternsearch08@lawyersalliance.org by their May 30, 2008 deadline. This allows for a June start date. The good news is that the hours are flexible, and if it wasn’t obvious, the internships are located in New York City.
