To be honest, I’m not a theater guy. I’ve been known to fall asleep in the middle of plays, so I’m probably not the best person to tell you all about the Manhattan Theatre Cub, but I do know that they have a great internship program. The Manhattan Theatre Club is “one of the only institutions in the U.S. solely dedicated to producing new plays and musicals.” They were founded in 1970, and now MTC, a non-profit, produces 7 plays a year for its subscriber base of 20,000 in Broadway’s recently restored Biltmore Theatre on West 47th Street and at the historic New York City Center complex on West 55th Street.
The Manhattan Theatre Club is currently recruiting for its Fall internships in Artistic Production, Business, and Development (Individual Giving, Institutional Giving, and Special Events). Even though their original deadline of July 11th passed (we know, because we found this job posting from July 17th). That means that if you’re interested in a Fall internship at the MTC, you better get moving fast. If you’re looking for an internship next Spring (or Summer), you have a little bit more time. Here’s a full list of internships that they offer, most of which are not currently open, and here are the full details of the MTC internship program. Interns at MTC:
- Work Monday through Friday from 10am-6pm
- Have their own desk, computer, phone and email account just like our full-time staff members.
- Are given intensive training as well as specific duties and projects in one department under the guidance of experienced supervisors.
- Attend full-staff meetings.
- Attend weekly educational seminars taught by MTC Department Heads and guests from the MTC extended creative family.
- Are assigned a mentor: a Staff Member from outside of their department to give them a fuller picture of how MTC works.
- Are provided a weekly stipend of $250 (though we are unable to provide housing assistance).
They also get free tickets to all MTC productions, invitations to readings of new plays and exciting special events, and free and discounted ticket offers to other company’s Broadway and off-Broadway performances. It sounds like a perfect opportunity for a drama enthusiast. Obviously, the MTC is located in New York City, and you can apply by sending an application form, cover letter, resume, and two letters of recommendation to interns@mtc-nyc.org.
