I’m a sponge for random information. I’m not sure why, but I pick up all kinds of weird facts. Some people find it very impressive, while others think that I have way too much free time. If you’re like me and have a love for weird and unusual information, then you need to check out mental_floss – “where knowledge junkies get their fix.” I’m not a subscriber, but maybe I should be. Their About page does a great job of explaining what it is exactly that they write about. The magazine has 5 sections – Stories to Make You Smile, Feed Your Right Brain, Nurture Your Left Brain, Indulge Your Scattered Brain, and Learn to Spin the Globe. It’s everything that you need to be the king or queen of random information.
If marginally useful knowledge is your jam, then a Summer internship with mental_floss is just what you need. They’re looking for 2 or 3 college students to help them by “contributing articles and quizzes to mentalfloss.com, researching, proofreading, editing, and spreading the word about the _floss. Plus various not-so-glamorous administrative tasks.” The internships are paid, albeit not very much ($750 for the whole summer), and they look like a lot of fun. You can presumably work at mental_floss’ office in Novelty, OH (it’s near Cleveland), but most of their past interns have worked virtually. The applications instructions are a little different than you might be used to, so check them out on mental_floss’ Internships post. You can apply by e-mailing all of the necessary information to floss.intern@gmail.com before 11:59pm Eastern Time on Sunday, April 26. These internships look like a ton of fun, so good luck getting them!
