We can be pretty sure that most of our readers are concerned with their futures – internships aren’t for slackers. Many undergraduates spend a lot of time focused on preparing themselves for a career, but they often ignore the other things that are essential to success in the “real world.” One of those things is personal finance. Everyone who is responsible about his or her finances raise your hand (or leave a comment). Yeah, that’s what we thought. Well, in this Web 2.0 world, managing your personal finances can actually be kind of fun. Mint is a startup that is enabling the fun.
We have two recommendations when it comes to managing your personal finances. First, start reading Ramit Sethi’s blog, I Will Teach You To Be Rich. Then, sign up for Mint.com, a new personal finance website that offers a great interface for managing all of your financial accounts on one site. Put simply, you set your Mint account to access your bank accounts (don’t worry, it’s really secure – they use the same security processes as your bank), and then they take that information and make sense of it for you. Their features include: easy access to balances on all your accounts and credit cards, graphical break downs of your spending habits, and even tips on how you could save money. In the next few years many of you will be both making and spending more money than you ever have before. Be responsible about it and use Mint.
Mint only appears to have one internship opportunity available right now, but it looks great. They’re hiring an Offers Management Analyst Intern to manage the “consumer financial products and home services offers that Mint presents to its users.” Mint makes money by offering its users ways to save money, such as switching to a higher yielding savings account. Their intern will be responsible for making sure that these offers are only of the highest quality. The internship is listed as 15 hours a week during the school year, but full-time for the summer with a flexible schedule. It’s paid with a stipend and offers stock options too! Mint is located in Mountain View, CA. You can apply by sending a cover letter about why you’re excited to work for Mint and a resume to jobs-bd@mint.com.
