Navigant Consulting Internships

The competition for internships in consulting and investment banking seems to have reached a level of insanity. A lot of college students are intent on chasing the big names, and ignore great opportunities at firms that have a little less brand recognition. Navigant Consulting is one of those firms that should not be overlooked during your consulting internship search, especially if your interests align with their specialties.

Although consulting may sound like a very specific industry, it’s actually a pretty vague term that describes any company that helps guide other companies. Every consultancy seems to have certain specialties, but the main idea is that you hire a consulting firm because they have expertise in something that your company doesn’t. Navigant Consulting specializes in litigation, financial, healthcare, energy and operational consulting services for government agencies, legal counsel and large companies that are facing the challenges of uncertainty, risk, distress and significant change. Navigant Consulting is especially focused on industries that are “undergoing substantial regulatory or structural change.” So, that means that when the government changes the rules that businesses must abide by, Navigant is there to straighten things out. Since we seem to be in a world where the government increasingly interferes with and regulate businesses, this is an area of consulting that should see significant growth. Just look at the results from Navigant Consulting’s most recent quarter.

Navigant is big on hiring at the entry-level, so they rely on internships to provide a good portion of their candidates (about 10% of new hires interned at Navigant). If you’re looking to get into consulting and have an interest in their areas of expertise, a Summer with Navigant would be well spent. Navigant does a lot of on-campus recruiting, so check to see if they’re coming to your campus, since that is the best route to get an internship with them. If your campus isn’t on their schedule, then you can apply for their internships online. You can choose from general Summer Associate positions or Summer Associate positions with a focus on Energy.

Good luck and get researching!
