New Leaf Paper Internships

New Leaf Paper

I wasn’t going to write an Earth Day post today, because I hate the environment. (That’s not true, it’s just what I tell Green Peace people who harass me as I walk down the street. The real reason was that I was going to do Administrative Assistants’ Day instead.) However, I came across San Francisco based New Leaf Paper, which couldn’t be a more fitting company to feature on Earth Day. According to their web site, they lead “the paper industry in the development and distribution of environmentally superior printing and office papers.” It’s kind of like Dunder Mifflin gone green and moved to California (there’s an idea for the Michael Scott Paper Company!). If you’re surprised that a paper company can offer both quality and affordability while being eco-friendly, then you should check out New Leaf’s Eco Audit. I don’t know what to make of all those numbers, but hopefully you will. At the very least it sounds phenomenal that they saved 118 Trees, 5,551 Pounds of solid waste, 50,178 Gallons of water, 84 Million Btu of energy, and more.

Turn Over a New Leaf

Although our paper usage has probably peaked (the decline seems to have started in 2007), we still use a ton of paper. That means that there’s a lot of room for a company like New Leaf Paper to eat up market share as corporate paper buyers decide to go green. That’s probably why New Leaf Paper recently secured a $5 million equity investment, even though they’re a profitable company that has been around for more than 10 years. This recent investment is exciting, but not as exciting as the fact that New Leaf Paper is looking for 5 Summer interns. There’s nothing about the internships on New Leaf Paper’s Jobs page (which seems impossible to find by navigating their site – I used Google to find it); in fact, all there is is a tweet about the internships. They’re looking for 5 Marketing interns – one each in Social Media, Web Content, E-commerce, Event Marketing, and Public Relations. There’s no specific call to action in the tweet, so you can either tweet back at them or try contacting them at info@newleafpaper.com. You may also want to do some research on their LinkedIn profile first to get an idea of what the company is like.

    1. Social Media Internship
New Leaf Paper has just begun a foray into the Social Media landscape and is eager to develop fruitful and lasting relationships with current and prospective customers, influencers and concerned citizens. NLP is actively seeking an intern to co-create sustainable strategies to facilitate these relationships on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, JustMeans, Blogger, Digg, YouTube, Delicious, etc, and nurture these relationships through the provision of compelling content, meaningful offers, and an understanding of how this community can advance our mission to inspire a fundamental shift towards sustainability in the Paper Industry.

    2. Website Content Internship
A dramatic evolution of newleafpaper.com (v.2) is imminent, but there is still much work to be done. NLP is actively seeking a content intern to research and author new content for our site, social media feeds, and ongoing newsletters including collaborating with our partners to co-author sections on sustainable design and other topics, requesting guest articles be written by leaders in sustainability, etc.

    3. E-Commerce Internship
New Leaf Paper has a tremendous opportunity to advance our mission through robust e-commerce efforts directly to consumers. This internship will focus on seamlessly integrating our e-commerce site newleafproducts.net with our main site newleafpaper.com, and evolving our offering (value proposition, order fulfillment, push and pull marketing) to drive sales. In addition, an opportunity exists to develop a more comprehensive affiliate marketing program to leverage our many NGO and business partnerships to drive sales.

    4. Event Marketing Internship
New Leaf Paper continues to be a leader in the sustainable business community and aims to advance our mission by engaging current and prospective customers in face-to-face dialogue. This internship will focus on developing a monthly Salon in San Francisco to bring together thought leaders in Sustainability with those eager to learn more – and advance the understanding about the impact of paper on people and planet. In addition, this internship will be charged with developing a ‘plug & play’ event model that can be replicated by our regional staff across the country.

    5. PR intern
New Leaf Paper has a phenomenal story to tell, as well as an opportunity to solicit, collect and share the stories of our partners and customers. The PR internship will focus on the collection, narration and dissemination of these stories to local and national media outlets, bloggers, etc, by tailoring the message based on the audience and media outlet.
