Do you have an iPhone yet? Maybe that’s an obnoxious question, but it’s getting less and less obnoxious as software developers continue to push out amazing applications. The iPhone is adding serious productivity tools in addition to the obvious entertainment capabilities in “the best iPod that Apple has ever made.” We may even be reaching the point where you can call an iPhone purchase a capital investment without cracking a smile. Apple is largely responsible for the iPhone’s success to this point, but it’s the 3rd party software developers who are taking the iPhone’s popularity to the next level. Pinch Media is a company that helps these iPhone developers grow their businesses. They’re doing so through analytics and advertising software that they’ve created for iPhone developers, but Pinch Media is also sitting down with developers and helping them determine when advertising makes sense, and when it doesn’t. Pinch Media’s business is all about helping other people make the most out of what they do best – the development of great iPhone applications.
Chad Pinkston from The Corporate Playbook (a great resource for college athletes who are job searching) sent me a link to a post on Fred Wilson’s Blog about Pinch Media’s internships. I took a look and knew that Greg Yardley, Pinch Media’s Founder and CEO, was offering an opportunity that we had to tell you about. You should read the blog post for the full story, but the short story of Greg’s life is that he got a Master’s in Russian history, had no idea what to do with his life, and somehow ended up at an Internet startup. It worked for him (he’s a CEO at a venture backed startup), and he wanted to give other students who are in similar situations a chance to taste the startup life. No matter what your background is, these internships may be for you. Here are the essential details:
Pinch Media is a small, early-stage startup working on tools for iPhone application developers. Right now it’s just me and a team of developers – the developers do the programming, and I do everything else. I can’t do everything I’d like to do right now, so I’m looking for some help. The work will involve pretty much everything besides programming – you’ll be doing some administrative tasks, some marketing work, some basic product & project management, some customer support, some research – you name it, you’ll have an opportunity to do it.
I’m looking for one or two interns to work around twenty hours a week each. Our offices are at 20th & Broadway, in the middle of the Flatiron District. The hours are relatively flexible and can be structured around a college schedule. These are paid positions, although the pay is low – we’re a capital-efficient company, and trying to do a lot with a little. Relevant experience is always appreciated, but isn’t strictly necessary for this job – the primary things I’m looking for are raw intelligence, enthusiasm, strong communications skills, and the ability to learn quickly.
We’re happy to consider everybody, but for personal reasons I’d especially like to talk to students who’ve never considered working at a dot-com, because they believed their academic backgrounds weren’t suitable.
In case you missed it, these internships are paid, located in New York City, and for college students with all kinds of academic backgrounds. E-mail your resume and a killer cover letter about why you’re perfect for this opportunity to Greg at greg@pinchmedia.com to apply.
