We’ve been dying to write about a company called Shazam here or on One Day, One Job, but it’s not the company that we’re featuring today. The company that we’ve been watching makes an iPhone application that tells you the artist and title of almost any song that you play into the speaker. Unfortunately, they are UK based and don’t have any job or internship opportunities, so we won’t be featuring them any time soon. In a completely unrelated search for Fall internships, we came across Shazam, a company that specializes in electronic fund transfers, electronic payments, and debit products. Their product may not be nearly as fun (well, money is fun), but they appear to have some really cool internship opportunities.
Shazam is a great name for a company that works magic, whether it be identifying some song that you want to download in a few seconds or sending money across the country in a blink of the eye. Getting an internship isn’t usually so easy, but you can dream. Put really simply, Shazam is in the business of making your money accessible anywhere. They allow you to get money from an ATM that is not owned by your bank. There are a lot of complexities to their business, but you can learn all about those when you intern for them.
What caught our eye about Shazam was their internship titles and descriptions. They’re awesome. Shazam is currently looking for a CSI: SHAZAM (Chargeback Special Investigator) Intern and a Real Life 101: Marketing Communication Intern. The descriptions are fun to read, and the jobs actually look really interesting. Not many companies put this kind of effort into the copywriting for their internship descriptions, so we hope that means that Shazam is as serious about their internship program as they seem.
The opening lines of CSI internship description are too good not to quote.
Do you like money? Are you someone who logs every debit purchase you make in your checkbook? Do you reconcile your bank statement as soon as you get it and have every cent accounted for accurately? Have you ever had a charge on your statement that you didn’t make? If you enjoy working with money, researching items, and tasks that require attention to detail, we have the job for you!
We imagine that CSI interns will be looking at data all day, but they make it sound so good! Marketing interns will work on the “development and distribution of corporate communications, including promotional materials, graphics files, press releases, conference materials, brochures, special event materials, and corporate videos,” while getting to know everyone from the frontline to the CEO. That also sounds pretty darn good.
We’re pretty sure that Shazam pays their interns, although they don’t say so explicitly - they say something like “earn while you learn.” Shazam’s internships are located in Des Moines, Iowa, and you can apply online through their Applicant Tracking System. Hopefully the hiring process will be like Shazam!
