Yesterday we came across an article that included pictures of one of Earth’s last uncontacted tribes. It’s absolutely incredible to think that there are people out there who have absolutely no idea about what exists in the world outside of their society (you can be sure they don’t need to get internships). Even cooler is the fact that the rest of the world has almost no clue about them. The pictures were taken from an aircraft, which must have left these people totally freaked out. Their reaction was what anyone would do given the circumstances, they started shooting arrows at the plane. The article mentioned a non-profit organization called Survival International which protects these people from the encroachment. We immediately thought internships.
Survival International is located in London, so working out an intership with them might be a bit difficult for the US audience that we write for. Still, we think that this organization is so cool that we have to share their internships with you anyway. The Survival International website is quite stunning, and you should take a look even if you’re not interested in their internships. There’s an amazing amount of information about all of the tribes that they are working to protect. Seriously, go look.
As for internships, Survival International has two openings in their London office. Their Jobs page mentions a Film Internship and an Outreach and Fundraising Internship. The descriptions on the Survival International site are in-depth and well written. They should give you a good idea of what the internships are about, although we have no idea if they can take interns from the states. If you’re familiar with the legalities of interning abroad, please leave a comment and share what you know.
We won’t go into any more detail, because there is so much to be seen on Survival International’s website. Enjoy learning about indigenous tribes!

Hi Willie,
Thanks for the link! Yes, we can accept interns from the US, but they must be able to work legally in the UK and should currently be living in the UK or getting to an interview would be tricky.
We have volunteers from both the US and Canada working with us from our London offices. Unfortunately, there aren’t many opportunities to intern or volunteer from afar, but if anyone has a special skill and wants to get involved with the movement for tribal peoples, please get in touch!
