Amy, my fiancée, and I communicate a lot over the course of the day. Beyond talking in person, we typically talk on the phone, we e-mail, we Gchat, and we iMessage. It works for us, but I could see how someone might want all of those communications in one place. Others might want to participate in some online PDA without the P. Either way, Pair is a solution. It’s an app created by a company called TenthBit in San Francisco, CA that is “for just the two of you.” Its features include “texting, sharing, videos, photos, sketching together, thumbkiss and more.” It’s a little overkill for me, but I can see why some couples love it.

Two of a Kind

The latest stats that I could find say that Pair is delivering 600,000 messages per day and has delivered more than 100,000,000 in total. That’s a lot of love (though I’d hate to see the Pair account of a couple in the midst of a breakup). Pair is a free app, so I’m not exactly sure what the business model will look like. Advertising to couples based on what they talk about is one pretty obvious solution, but they could also offer premium features (like warning you send a message that will put you in the dog house?). I’m really interested to see what Pair looks like in a few years. If you want to be a part of that story, take a look at their TenthBith’s Careers page. Right now they’re looking for interns “to help with marketing, QA, and software development.” They don’t mention whether the positions are paid or not, but it’s well worth reaching out.
