Are you constantly bruised, scraped, and loaded with adrenaline? If so, it’s pretty likely that you’re a reader of one of Transworld’s magazines - Surf, Skateboarding, Snowboarding, RIDEbmx, Motocross, Quad Off-Road, or Business when you’re taking some time to heal up before your next extreme adventure. Transworld has readership of over 4 million across these titles, which is surprising since you’d think most action sports enthusiasts would be too busy trying to break their next bone to sit down and read a magazine. With 7 great titles and a strong online presence, Transworld is a major player in extreme sports media. They don’t have a unified internship program, but we’ve done some research to try to identify what kind of internships you might be able to snag with each of their magazines.
Researching Transworld is tough. Transworld.net doesn’t offer much more than an aggregation of content from their 7 publication specific sites, and the name Transworld is easily confused with other Trans Worlds and Transworlds. Transworld is a part of the Bonnier Corporation, but their site doesn’t offer much help when looking for more information about Transworld or their internships. That meant that we had to use our elite Google skills to dig up more information about internships with each of Transworld’s magazines.
Here’s what we found. Transworld Motocross is actively looking for marketing interns as of yesterday. They’ve had interns before, and they even had their first intern write about his experience. Transworld Quad Off-Road Magazine had their first intern ever this summer, and they’re really excited about it. Hopefully they’ll be hiring more interns in the future, so you should certainly try reaching out to them if you’re interested. Transworld BMX was hiring an intern last October, and announced another internship in July. We’re not sure if they’ve filled that yet, but it’s certainly worth looking into. Finally, the last we heard of Transworld Surf’s hiring an intern was back in 2004, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t hired interns since. The same can be said for the rest of Transworld’s publications - we haven’t heard that they’re hiring interns, but they very well could be.
The best way to score an internship with any of Transworld’s magazines is to ask. For the Motocross and BMX publications, the path to applying is pretty clear if you follow the links above. For the rest of the publications, you’ll have to do a little digging for contacts. Find an editor or writer’s contact info on the site, and send them your cover letter and resume. They’ll probably be totally amped to hear from you. We know that Transworld Motocross’ offices are located in Oceanside, CA and that Transworld BMX’s offices are in Tustin, CA. We’re not sure about the rest, but they’re presumably California based as well. All internships with Transworld magazines are unpaid.
