When I first heard the name Whole Child International, I was a bit perplexed. I usually take for granted the fact that children are whole. I quickly realized that they mean emotionally whole, not physically whole (although that is important too, I’m sure). Whole Child International is focused on working “in existing children’s institutions to improve the quality of care and help prevent the bleak outcomes that await most children raised in the world’s orphanages.” They first started in Nicaragua, but they are now in El Salvador too. Their goal is to help children in orphanages develop the basic psychological tools that they “need to succeed in school, work, relationships, and families of their own.” They have a distinctive model for institutional change that aims to directly affect the orphanage administration and caregivers so that they can better serve the children in their care.

Whole Children, Part-Time Internships

Whole Child International is currently looking for a Social Networking Intern to help expand awareness of their organizational goals. The internship is unpaid, located in Los Angeles, and starts immediately and runs through at least the Spring. They want someone who can spend at least 10 hours per week helping them use the Internet to spread awareness about their cause. If you love socializing on the Internet and have developed savvy on multiple social networking platforms, then this internship might be a great opportunity for you to make the world a better place while you do what you do best. Being bilingual (Spanish) will help a lot, but it’s not a requirement. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and you can apply by sending a cover letter and resume to kj@wholechild.org.

I would love to know if Canada has any involvement in this organization or if there is one similar in Canada. I would also like to know how you have managed to work with governments in other countries.
