WIRED Magazine Internships

Despite the fact that I’m only 24, I like to consider myself an Internet veteran. I think that I first got online in 1994 or 1995 on Apple’s eWorld. WIRED Magazine beat me to the punch. They’ve been exploring “the ideas, innovations and people that are reshaping our world” since 1993 with a specific focus on technology. I’ve been an occasional reader of Wired (both online and in print), and I’ve always enjoyed their content. They may have been around a long time, but they still seem to be on the cutting edge when it comes to covering new ideas and the next big thing. Despite their techie focus, they’re a part of the struggling publishing industry, and they’ve had to lay people off as recently as November. Maybe that’s why they’re looking for interns. Still, you have to love a brand that has covered the Internet as it has grown up with the Internet.

Get WIRED

Wired recently posted a call for editorial interns on Craigslist. They’re looking for people who can work full-time at their office in San Francisco from “July 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009 and focus on editorial assistance, gadgets research, fact-checking, and reporting.” The inters will work closely with Senior Editors, so it sounds like a pretty cool gig. Because of the length of the internship and the full-time nature, these opportunities are probably more likely to be suitable for recent college grads, but if you can swing it, then go for it. The four internships that they’re offering are in General Editing, Gadgets, Research, and Reporting. They’re paid $12 an hour and the application instructions are very specific. You can check out the full posting to get all of the details. It kind of sounds like they’re replacing some jobs with these internships (which are low paying if you think of them as jobs), but maybe this is just what you need to start off your career.
