Yesterday we wrote about The Cleveland Foundation’s Internships because they asked us to (and the internships looked great). Today we’re writing about internships at WTTW11, a local PBS station in Chicago, because one of their former interns e-mailed us to let us know that he highly recommended interning with them. We’ve looked at internships at PBS and we’ve also looked at internships with American Documentary before, so today’s internships should be similar to those. That’s because WTTW11 is a major local PBS affiliate that produces a number of its own shows. They have some major projects going on, and they need lots of interns to help out. They work on both local and national productions, and both are of impressive quality. This isn’t some tiny tv station – they’re producing shows that can be seen across all PBS stations (in the past they’ve produced classics like Lamb Chop’s Play Along and The Frugal Gourmet).
WTTW is also know as Window to the World Communications, Inc. We’re guessing that it’s a backronym based off of their call letters. Our reader who tipped us off to WTTW’s internships especially recommended the opportunities for Journalism, Film, and History majors, although some of the internships don’t require a specific major. Right now, there are currently 9 internship opportunities available for college students at WTTW11 – WTTW Documentary Internship, WTTW/WFMT Website Internship, Stock Footage & Research Internship, WTTW Pledge/Fundraising Internship, WFMT Development Internship, WTTW Membership Marketing Internship, WFMT Introductions Internship, TV Production Internship, and Image Union/Broadcast Productions Internship. The descriptions are relatively detailed, and should give you a good sense of the responsibilities that come with the internships. These opportunities are unpaid and typically part time, and as we said before, they’re located in Chicago. If you’d like to apply, you can send your cover letter and resume to jobs@networkchicago.com

I grew up watching Sesame Street on WTTW! They are an awesome PBS affiliate and I highly recommend them just based on their programming. And yes, Window to the World is based on their call letters!
