Someone Won an iPod Touch!

Posted on Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Congratulations to Alex Payne, a recent graduate of Duke University. He won the iPod Touch in our Tell a Friend, Win an iPod Touch Contest. You may remember Alex from our article on Using Facebook Ads for Job Search, as he was one of the initial participants in the experiment. His number was picked randomly by Microsoft Excel’s Random Number Generator, but we have to say that we’re happy to see him win.

Overall, the number of entries in the contest was a bit disappointing. We had to disqualify a few people for trying to game the system, but most of the people who entered did a great job of telling their friends about us. We think that either the contest was too confusing or all of you already have iPods.

We still think that are contests are a great way to get you more involved, but we aren’t going to give away sweet prizes to get low turnout. So we want to hear from you. What should we do for our next contest? What types of prizes would you like to see (something related to your job search)? How can we take One Day, One Internship from a great resource to a thriving community for job seekers to share tips and ideas?

Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Tell a Friend About Us and Win an iPod Touch

ODOI iPod Touch Contest

Today is my birthday, and since I run this show, I want to extend the celebration to all of you. There’s nothing that I want more for my birthday than for you to tell your friends about One Day, One Job and One Day, One Internship (sad, I know). Unfortunately, instead of that, I got an iPod Touch. That’d be really sweet, except I already have an iPhone. (Ok, I didn’t really get the iPod Touch for my birthday. I won it in a guest blogging contest on The Talent Buzz with a post about networking on Twitter, but let’s pretend it was a birthday gift.) Since I think that regifting is completely acceptable, I’m willing to trade my iPod Touch for your telling your friends about one or both of our sites. I want to give everybody a chance to win, so we’re going to turn this into a little contest.

Here’s how it works:

The contest is pretty straight forward, so I hope that you’ll take a few minutes to make my birthday a great one and spread the word about us. Oh yeah, and don’t try to cheat. We will disqualify anyone who tries to take advantage of how easy it is to enter.

In case you’re wondering, it’s an 8 GB iPod Touch that we’re giving away. It’s the old version, but it’s brand new in the box and still awesome. It’s definitely worth the small effort that it will take to tell your friends about One Day, One Job and One Day, One Internship.

How Should I Tell My Friends?

Here’s a sample note that you can use to tell your friends about us. You can e-mail it to them, IM it to them, or even post it on Facebook. Just make sure that you get the links right so that they can sign up.

Hey!

I know that searching for jobs and internships online can be really painful, but I found two sites that actually make the process not suck. They’re called One Day, One Job and One Day, One Internship.

Ok, I admit it. I was going to keep One Day, One Job and One Day, One Internship to myself. I’m a selfish person, and I didn’t want you to apply for the same jobs or internships that I’m applying for, but they bribed me with the chance to win an iPod Touch. For every five friends that I get to sign up to one of their e-mails lists, I get an entry in the contest (once you sign up, you can enter too).

Don’t worry, they’re really cool and won’t spam you. You’ll just get a daily e-mail telling you about a really cool company and what kind of jobs or internships the company offers. If you ever get sick of it or hopefully find the job or internship of your dreams, unsubscribing is really easy.

If you’re looking for an entry level job for after you graduate college, sign up for One Day, One Job’s daily e-mails.

If you’re looking for internships, sign up for One Day, One Internship’s daily e-mails.

Be sure to let me know that you signed up so that I can tell them that I referred you. I really want that iPod Touch.

If you have any questions about the contest, just leave a message in the comments, and we’ll answer it promptly.
